From Saboteurs to Sages: The Revolution of Empowerment in Positive Intelligence

Unmasking Saboteurs: The Inner Critics We Face

In the pursuit of empowerment, BIPOC women often encounter internal obstacles known as Saboteurs—those persistent inner critics that whisper doubts, fears, and self-limiting beliefs. These voices, shaped by societal pressures and personal experiences, can be formidable adversaries. One of my clients jokingly called her Judge “the colonizer” and it’s so true. Through colonization, we’ve been told who we are and how to act, and through survival, we believed it and assimilated. Recognizing and understanding our Saboteurs is the first step towards disarming their power.

Common Saboteurs:

  1. The Judge: Criticizes and blames, fostering feelings of inadequacy.

  2. The Controller: Seeks to control situations and outcomes, often leading to stress.

  3. The Victim: Dwells on the negative, cultivating a sense of helplessness.

The Sage: Cultivating the Inner Wise Mentor

Enter the Sage—an inner ally that counteracts the Saboteurs and fosters a mindset of positivity, empathy, and wisdom. The Sage is our inner guide, encouraging us to approach challenges with curiosity and resilience. In empowerment with Positive Intelligence, cultivating the Sage becomes a potent tool for self-compassion and navigating the complexities of life.

Key Qualities of the Sage:

  1. Empathy: Approaches challenges with understanding and compassion.

  2. Explore and Innovate: Encourages curiosity and a growth mindset.

  3. Navigate with Calm: Approaches situations with clarity and calmness.

Positive Intelligence in Action: A Blueprint for BIPOC Women

  1. Identifying Your Saboteurs: Take a moment for self-reflection. What are the recurring thoughts or beliefs that hinder your progress? Identifying Saboteurs is the first step toward disempowering them.

  2. Cultivating the Sage: Embrace moments of self-compassion. What would your inner Sage say in challenging situations? Allow the wisdom of the Sage to guide your responses.

  3. Community and Collective Wisdom: Share your experiences with other BIPOC women. By fostering a community that understands the dynamics of Saboteurs and the Sage, we amplify the strength of our collective wisdom.
